Examples of mistakes some people think are (or experience as) unforgivable:

  • Cheating, embezzlement, or theft
  • Disability or limitation
  • Failure in business, a career, or school
  • Neglect at home or work, including self-neglect
  • Racism, sexism, or sexual harassment

Kelly is building a new business. She is adding new credentials, diligently working through start-up plans, and tracking her progress. She has launched her website and is creating valuable content. She is “doing all the right things” with her time and money. Yet her progress is often stifled by sick days, technology issues, and other distractions. These typically appear on the days she has big pitch meetings or exams scheduled. As strong and smart as she is, she sometimes fails to invest back into herself, leaving too much room for disruptions and too little energy to overcome them so she can stay on course. The more we speak, the more I realize she hasn’t forgiven herself for her divorce. Until she does, she can’t allow herself to succeed in her business and without her husband. She feels guilty for her ability to move on so easily, but her guilt will not make him any more successful…
