Community Engagement

We are deeply committed to community involvement and believe in building strong connections with organizations and individuals working towards a more just and harmonious world. We actively participate in a variety of events, workshops, and volunteer activities, focusing on:
  • Conflict resolution
  • Education
  • Conscious business practices
While we receive more invitations than we can accommodate, we value every opportunity to connect and collaborate. We encourage you to reach out, and we look forward to engaging with you when possible. In the meantime, here are some of the places you can typically find us:

Regularly Attended Events

  • In This Together Roundtable (ITTR): Our founder, Nance L. Schick, participates in this online networking group on Tuesdays at 11 AM Eastern. ITTR members share upcoming events, discuss business updates, and participate in breakout sessions. If you’re interested in attending a meeting, please let us know.
  • Videosocials: Nance has been creating short YouTube videos with Videosocials since 2019, covering topics such as workplace disputes, discrimination, sexual harassment, and worker misclassification. Her group meets Tuesdays at 4 PM Eastern. Schedule a call with Nance if you’d like to attend and would like tips on preparing your own video introduction.

  • 26x Networking: Nance is a member of this in-person networking group, which meets every two weeks. Meetings feature breakfast, networking, introductions, and connection-building exercises. Learn more at the 26x Networking website.

  • Downtown Norfolk Ladies: When she’s not in New York, this monthly meeting is one of the places Nance is learning about business and practicing law in Virginia. Use the above link to schedule a call with her, if you’re interested in attending.
  • Continuing Vision: Since 2003, Nance has been teaching continuing education courses, including law credit courses for the funeral profession since 2011 and specifically for Continuing Vision since 2012. You can find a list of courses she has taught here on the Third Ear Conflict Resolution website. To see the upcoming Continuing Vision programs, click here.

Volunteering

We envision a world where employment is a mutually beneficial partnership for achieving compatible goals in the employer’s business and the communities that support it. One way we further that vision is to volunteer with organizations that expand access to mediation. You will frequently find Nance coaching future mediators at:

  • Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts MediateArt
  • Law School Mediation Competitions
  • The annual FINRA Dispute Resolution Triathlon
Additionally, we support a variety of other organizations on a single-event basis. You might see us planting trees and shrubs, donating food, or leading conflict resolution and small business workshops in Virginia or New York.

Sports

Great work requires great health, which includes physical and mental fitness. We enjoy participating in charity runs like Tunnel to Towers and Race for the Cure, as well as softball, hiking, biking, and training at the YMCA. Nance also frequently posts her run times under #OldLadyRunning to inspire other older runners who have overcome injuries and illnesses.
